Blackjack is possibly one of the more favored games participated in, in casinos. Blackjack is also referred to as "twenty one" or "pontoon." The game is a combination of chance and ability combined with decision-making. The card game has adapted over a period of time. Players have specialized in certain skills like "card card counting," with which they turn the edge in the game in their direction. The card game has been in existence since the 18th century. References can be located in historical scriptures to a game referred to as "vingt-et-un," which in French means 21, and is deemed as the ancestor to blackjack.

The game was at first not very popular in the united states. This caused the casinos trying a number of things like offering a reward in case of a ten to one pay out, if the blackjack player was dealt a "black" jack and an ace of spades. The jack could be either the jack of clubs or spades. Once the game became popular, the reward pay out quickly vanished from the game.

Any hand which reaches a value of twenty-one is deemed a winner. The total can not go beyond twenty one, in which case the hand is said to be "bust." The goal of any player is to best the dealer. If both the blackjack player and the croupier have an identical hand value, it is referred to as a "push," with not either the black jack player or the croupier winning the hand.
